The United States is set to overhaul its anti-drug strategy in Afghanistan by phasing out the destruction of opium poppy crops.

Richard Holbrooke, the US special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, says the US policy has only put farmers out of business and engendered sympathy for the Taliban.

Al Jazeera's Nick Spicer reports.
