Hopefully we can keep getting more of the media involved until the terrorism by Homeowner Associations is removed.
People magazine and CNN recently reported the ongoing abuses by HOA's - Homeowners Associations. I'm hoping the reporting will continue to expose what is going on so we can free our own country from the terrorism that is going on from within.
I received my first harassment letter dated just 5 days (August two days 2004) after moving into my new home for parking our camper in the driveway. I received a letter threatening legal action dated 35 days after moving in. My letter requesting more time to build a fence to move the camper behind was ignored, even though they asked if we needed time for compliance, and our request to build the fence was denied. Does this seem logical and reasonable?
HOA's have gone completely overboard concerning deed restrictions. It's so they can impose fines(extortion) to collect even more money to enrich themselves. People are afraid of losing their homes so they pay up. Then they stay quiet because they don't want to be victimized again. You aren't even allowed to dispute what they are fining you for. Sound like terrorism? It is.
It's become a matter of imposing their personal likes and dislikes upon the entire community. I have a personal dislike for wood fences, they are high maintenance and look terrible. Why should I continue to be forced to have one because someone else prefers them? I'm not allowed to have anything outside my own house regarding my own likes and dislikes. And then to have to ask permission for every flower, plant and tree is beyond any logical comprehension. It's just a matter of time before they decide to dictate what we can have inside our homes too.
Research on American Homeowners Resource Center has opened my eyes to the nationwide problem of HOA's.
Another website for Texas Homeowner Advocates . Please take the time to check out these websites and consider helping homeowners by investigating and reporting the abuse. I can find many people who have even worse stories to tell than mine. I am not the only disgruntled homeowner. I am brand new to this type of terror and abuse.
I'm sure the retaliation and harassment will be increased since I am going to fight back. The stress and the amount of time I have had to devote to these insane, heartless people is incredible. I refuse to allow the 'new mob' to use their new extortion practices to bankrupt me and steal my home. I'm sure the fines for alleged deed restriction offenses will soon be tagged onto my property, and then the attorney fees will start rolling in. I will refuse to pay this extortion. You will definitely have a news worthy story if they start the foreclosure, we are not going down without a fight.
I realize that if whoever is reading this has a vested interest in reaping the monetary benefits by being an owner in a management company like Senator John Carona, who has illegally voted on bills that this will continue to go unreported.
There are finally getting to be enough people that are fed up with the treatment received by these new thugs that the voices of the homeowners will eventually get heard and legislation to put a stop to the abuses will finally be enacted.
This is my first encounter with living in an HOA and we have only been there 71 days today. These people are dictators in the truest sense of the word. If I had known what HOA living was like, we would have NEVER bought the house.
I have yet to meet one of my neighbors who has not been harassed in some way by the HOA. I am going to educate as many people as I can and work on getting HOA's abolished, they are absolutely unconstitutional. We lived without HOA's 20 years ago, and they are still unnecessary today except as a form of income to developers and management companies.
I have written to all the Texas Senators and the representative for my district, and have received only one letter in response. This letter was from Senator Bob Deuell, and based on his response, he is not willing to help homeowners. I don't have the letter with me today to include here.
I am enclosing my correspondence and the management company correspondence in pdf format which can be read with Adobe Acrobat software, which is a free download.
If this was you, would you want to live like this and be treated this way? What about your family? I'm sure someone you know has their own stories to tell. Just ask around |
